FutureChef the Competition is well under way with over 50 schools across the UK having already completed their School Heat! Our participants have been creating some sensational dishes as part of the competition so far; we are so excited to see what the other schools have to offer!
With a budget of £5 and an hour to cook their dish, our participants have shown their talent and creativity by cooking a great variety of dishes, ranging from a Fillet Steak with Asparagus, Broccoli, and Paprika Potatoes to some freshly prepared Ravioli in a Tomato Sauce with Garlic Bread. One teacher has described the food as “incredible”, adding that the culinary skills were amazing.
Larbert High School turned up the (School) Heat with a Mac & Cheese Challenge! The participants were instructed to make Mac & Cheese, using the same recipe and ingredients, but were also provided some extra ingredients to personalise the dish. With ingredients such as chorizo, harissa, breadcrumbs, pesto and various cheeses and vegetables, the participants had lots to choose from to add their own twist, and these young people did not disappoint! The judges were looking for some innovative ideas and wanted the competitors to make their dishes stand out from the crowd. Some went cheese crazy, making a 3 or 4 cheese dish, some added a Spanish flair with chorizo, one competitor chose to add harissa to the cheese sauce, while another combined two ingredients to create pesto breadcrumbs. We can only imagine how hard it must have been to pick one competitor to progress through to the Local Finals!
With the Local Finals taking place in November and December across the UK, the heat is well and truly on, and we wish all the participants the best of luck, as we look forward to the next stages in our exciting competition.
It’s not too late to register! If you would like to take part and hold your school heat in time for our Local Finals, register here.
