Suraiya took part in our FutureChef BakeOff competition when she was fourteen, after being encouraged by her Food Technology teacher to showcase her baking skills. Inspired by the classic dessert, Suraiya created a Black Forrest Gateaux-esque tart. A sweet shortcrust pastry filled with a dark chocolate ganache topped with fresh cherries and a scattering of pomegranate seeds to cut through the decadence.
Suraiya was drawn to the FutureChef BakeOff competition as she has not seen an online competition like this before and the baking aspect appealed to her skillset. The application was easy to complete, and she was able to participate, without any detriment to her schooling.
Taking part in FutureChef BakeOff has encouraged Suraiya to push her capabilities and open herself up to new experiences for learning. With the goal of building a career in the industry, Suraiya is looking to explore her talents, and gain experience in a professional environment, to improve her culinary and patisserie knowledge.
