Springboard Programme: FutureChef Winner
Region: North West England
Year: 2016
Bethan won our FutureChef competition in 2016 when she was 14 years old. At the time, she was studying GCSE Food Tech and entered the competition to explore her talent. Recalling her most memorable experience in the competition, Bethan reflects on the final in London, describing it as a “surreal” experience.
From winning FutureChef, Bethan went on to complete a chefs’ apprenticeship at the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and currently works as a Junior Sous Chef at the Art School Restaurant in the Pastry section. Bethan chose to enter the Craft Guild of Chef’s Pastry Graduate Awards and has just found out that she made it to the final stage of the competition. She has also been invited to enter this years Young National Chef of the Year competition. Bethan thrives in competitions and was a finalist in both the North-West Young Chef and the Young National Chef competitions in 2019.
Bethan attests that FutureChef was invaluable in opening these opportunities and giving her the confidence to do this as a career. She would encourage anyone interested in cooking to enter FutureChef, and to take advice from the FutureChef mentors and judges.
