Springboard Programme: FutureChef BakeOff

Alex took part in our FutureChef BakeOff competition in 2020/2021 when he was 15, he is our North-East regional competition runner up.  An aspiring doctor, cooking and baking has always been a passion of Alex’s; he wanted to use the competition as an opportunity to be imaginative, and create something unique.

Alex was inspired by his own emotions during the COVID-19 lockdown when creating his dish. Making a rainbow fruit tart atop a crème pâtissier, Alex chose the 7 colours of the rainbow to represent the different emotions he felt.

Being a participant in our first ever virtual competition, Alex was hesitant but keen to take part and explore his talent. He found the process of applying and competing straightforward and appreciated our weekly emails to check in and ensure he felt comfortable in the competition.

Although he has always considered being a doctor as his main career path, Alex has said that taking part in the FutureChef BakeOff, as well as reading testimonials of previous participants, has opened a new door for him, with regards to prospective careers.
